Our Mission

Adult Learner Services of Greater Derry  provides free, confidential, one-to-one and small group instruction in basic reading, writing, math, English as a second language, and GED preparation to serve the educational needs of adults in our community and prepare them for employment or post-secondary educational goals.

IndividualTutoring

The heart of our program lies in one-to-one tutoring. Meetings with volunteer tutors are private and happen at a time and place that is mutually convenient.  Many people who previously struggled in a classroom environment find that they flourish with the personalized attention they receive from an individual tutor.

Our Volunteer Tutors

Our volunteers come from many walks of life and work experiences, and all are committed to helping another adult succeed with their learning goals.  Volunteer tutors receive materials, training and ongoing support as they work in partnership with adult learners to help them reach their individual educational goals.

 GED Preparation Classes

Free GED preparation classes taught by experienced GED instructors are offered twice each year. Twelve-week sessions are designed to cover all GED test material for the Math and Writing Skills subtests. Individual tutoring is available for learners who need additional help with Math and Writing Skills or with the Social Studies, Science, and Reading subtests.
